Being a student and a business owner here brings a lot of assignments, meetings, deadlines and a complicated personal life straining on the individual. At one point, my to-do list reached an unbearable length. That’s when I came across the motivation concept of “focusing on small victories”, which made a huge difference. Responding to an important email, completing a deal, fixing a small issue, or getting out of bed on a rough day are examples of small wins. I used to wait to celebrate significant milestones like “launching a product” or “acing an exam” but now I celebrate all the smaller steps which take me closer to my goals. I started to celebrate small wins and in return, I was able to build some form of momentum. Each small win provided mini boosts of motivation, and a feeling of progress that pushed me forward. I was able to turn huge Confusing goals into a series of small, simple, and measurable goals. Academically and professionally, the approach has worked well for me. For instance, while working on a feature for my company, I schedule mini-milestones that can be achieved within a day or two.

While studying, I only concentrate on a single concept until I master it. Each win, no matter how small, bolsters motivation and mental stamina for the next step. In my case, the structure and mental clarity I gain from the approach increases my productivity and keeps me centered. Achievements can be subtle and uncelebrated, but that’s perfectly fine. Small efforts relentlessly over time can yield substantial results.
